Alexander Calder was typically known for his invention of the mobile sculptures and large sculptures. As one of the first artists to actively take his art to another level, Calder's reputation developed through his interesting abstract shapes and scientific materials such as pulleys, metals and cranks. He also created works in other medias such as paintings, lithographs, tapestry, kinetic toys, jewelry and domestic items. Calder is known for being a great influence on 1950's Paris-based artists that were exploring kinetics and op art.
