It aims to challenge assumptions about this familiar genre, inviting new perspectives and asking viewers: what really is still life?</p><p>More than 50 artworks will be on display, created by more than 50 artists over the past 100 years.</p><p>The exhibition will begin with a dramatic and theatrical display in the gallery’s largest space, placing <a target="_blank" href=https://www.mutualart.com/Gallery/Hastings-Contemporary/"/Artist/Hew-Locke/364A5DB13D63193B">sculptures by Hew Locke</a>, Phyllida Barlow and <a target="_blank" href=https://www.mutualart.com/Gallery/Hastings-Contemporary/"/Artist/Ai-Weiwei/85A57DDAF3D18CEC">Ai Weiwei</a> alongside paintings and prints by artists including <a target="_blank" href=https://www.mutualart.com/Gallery/Hastings-Contemporary/"/Artist/Ansel-Krut/2CDABCE296E7C87F">Ansel Krut</a> and Henry Moore.</p><p>The show will progress thematically, journeying through nature and culture, trace and absence, and production and consumption, while also delving into still life’s darker undercurrents of death, violence and exploitation with <a target="_blank" href=https://www.mutualart.com/Gallery/Hastings-Contemporary/"/Artist/Lonnie-Holley/47A89DCDABF6C31A">works by Lonnie Holley</a>, <a target="_blank" href=https://www.mutualart.com/Gallery/Hastings-Contemporary/"/Artist/Gabriella-Boyd/C948AEC3C0F74A1B">Gabriella Boyd</a> and <a target="_blank" href=https://www.mutualart.com/Gallery/Hastings-Contemporary/"/Artist/William-Turnbull/4EAEE087937AF4F2">William Turnbull</a>.</p><p><br></p>" />
